CWB Africa Summit 2025 Concludes with Call to Action for Women’s Empowerment
The Commonwealth Business Women Africa (CBW Africa) Summit 2025 has come to a close, leaving a lasting impact on the continent’s efforts to promote women’s economic empowerment. Held in Lagos, Nigeria, from March 8-11, 2025, the summit brought together women entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and stakeholders from across Africa.
In a communique tagged the Lagos Declaration, CBW Africa Continental President, Mrs. Ngozi Oyewole, emphasized the importance of empowering women in driving sustainable development across Africa.
The declaration noted that women are not just participants but leaders, innovators, and change-makers, and that it is essential to confront challenges head-on and demand equal representation and participation in all sectors.
The summit featured engaging discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities, resulting in several key outcomes. Participants developed actionable strategies for harnessing synergies across trade, health, technology, and clean energy. The summit also saw the development of resources, including training materials and toolkits, to support members in enhancing their business skills.
CBW Africa also announced plans to enroll one million girls in coding programs, reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in rural areas, promote sustainable agricultural practices, support policies that enhance industrialization, and eliminate early marriages. These initiatives require the support and commitment of all stakeholders, including governments, organizations, and individuals.
Governments in Africa were urged to put in place mechanisms for women’s economic advancements, addressing global economic challenges. “When women thrive, families thrive, communities prosper, and nations grow stronger,” Mrs. Oyewole emphasized.
